Gas Works
This commissioned project was an opportunity to explore and document the interior of a historic local landmark. Gaining access to the inside of this iconic structure was truly remarkable. Due to hazardous toxic sludge that had accumulated at the base, I coordinated with construction teams to safely bulldoze earth and construct a ramp leading to the entrance, allowing me to photograph the interior of the structure.
Originally built in 1932, the gas holder gained national attention in July 2012 when a fire during maintenance work nearly led to an explosion, forcing thousands of islanders to evacuate their homes and businesses. In the aftermath, the local gas company faced multiple fines, leading to the gas holder's eventual decommissioning.
